As the nights grew longer and snow began to pile on their roof, Dana decided she needed a break from winter. It was only December and the cold nights already seemed to stretch on forever. Sitting at the computer one night, visions of Hawaii popped into her head. She pictured herself basking in a warm patch of light as palm trees rustled in the wind. Maybe it was one of those sneaky ads, but before she could really think about it, the trip was booked. It was a vacation for just her and her daughter who had big plans to frolic in the warm Hawaiian water. They scheduled a mini photo session to remember their special getaway.
A little confession? I was cold the afternoon of their session. It’s winter in Hawaii too after all and it was a brisk 70 degrees out that day (a.k.a. sock weather). These two Alaskans showed up with matching grins and vibrant rainbow streaks in their hair. We explored the twisting, gnarled trees and flowers in the park but Eva was yearning for the beach. She tugged on her mother desperate to get into the water. Finally she was free and made a mad dash to the ocean where she splashed and jumped waves until darkness fell. They weren’t cold at all.
