Porsche was so excited for her photo session. For inspiration, she created an entire Pinterest board full of lovely family portraits taken on the mainland – grassy fields bathed in soft evening light, warm fall colors, tall boots, and cozy sweaters. Throw in an old barn for some extra ambiance. The were images that make you want to curl up with a mug of hot cider next to the fire. She wanted to re-create the look here in Hawaii.
I was stumped. Hawaii is not known for it’s grassy meadows and soft light, but I love a challenge. I set off to find a bit of the mainland here on Oahu. After much searching a friend suggested West Loch Community Shoreline Park in Ewa. It doesn’t even sound like something that belongs in Hawaii, so that was a good sign. I arrived one evening to find a grassy park bathed in warm light. Perfection. Well okay, it had a bit of weird smell and the water is completely polluted, but that doesn’t show up in pictures :) We had our location.
Our session happened to occur on a heat wave of an afternoon with Kona winds bringing stifling humidity. But Porsche and her family looked incredibly stylish and put together despite the heat (not the sopping mess I was). Much to his credit, Mike did not complain once as we explored the little park with sweat running down his face. Totally worth it, the looked it great.
Don’t let that sweet little face fool you. Haehuaina is one tough little girl with a fierce love of rocks and adventure. If you look closely at the images, you can find some treasures grasped in her little hand.
