After 4 years of living in Hawaii, this soccer-loving, energetic family was returning to Australia. The youngest was taking an American accent back with her. Returning home is always bittersweet. As they return to their sun-drenched country, they leave behind, not only friends, but favorite landscapes and activities from their happy island life. A photo session was in order. They wanted to take a break from the chaos of packing and preparing to move to spend time together. They wanted to make some lasting memories in their favorite places.
Deciding where to go was tricky. They definitely wanted to incorporate the iconic Mokula islands which decorated their backyard, but we couldn’t decide to meet on the beach or on a hike. In the end, we decided on both. In the brisk morning air, we kicked around a soccer ball waiting for the sun to rise over Lanikai Beach. We played and laughed in the warm sun until it was time to send the kids to school.
Later that afternoon we met again for their favorite hike – the Lanikai pillbox hike. Up we climbed scrambling over rocks with the kids alternately racing and helping each other. At the top, we were able to take in more stunning views as the sun sank behind the mountains.
