A Mellow Beach for the Kids
My husband had a conference up at Turtle Bay and I decided to take the kids up there for the morning (a.k.a. he needed a ride). We’ve been there in the past. Waaay back when we didn’t have any kids. We went biking and walked for miles on an empty beach looking for shells and native plants (yes, we’re nerdy). It was awesome, but I didn’t remember it as being a kid friendly kind of place.
Anyway, I remembered the bike path and decided to haul out the stroller and my son’s balance bike. We walked around the hotel watching the big waves and then headed to the east end of the parking lot where the “trail” began. Okay, I think it’s actually a horse trail or … not a trail at all? There were some stretches of soft sand that I had to will the stroller through and carry the bike, but it wasn’t long before we found a beautiful little cove.
Beautiful view, shade, intertidal area full of snails and crabs, soft sand, protected swimming cove, no people … a little something for everyone. We stayed long past nap time until the kids turned into pumpkins. Or whatever a demonic version of a pumpkin would be. Eh, it was worth it. Turtle Bay, we’ll be back!
