I met Heather awhile back when she took my photography class. Well “met” in the online sense, since it was an online class. By the way, in the future i’m making it an in-person, live kind of deal. There were too many people, shall we say, slacking on their homework
. Anyway, one of the reasons Heather took the class was to take better photographs for her blog, Mama Surfs. I checked it out one day and read her post called time is love. It really struck a cord with me for 2 reasons.
First of all, it was a great reminder to find time to actually live my life, not just survive it. I started this business with the intention of it being part-time allowing me time to take care of the kids and house, spend time with my husband, friends, maybe get some exercise, possibly even have a few minutes of free-time? Yeah, not so much. The business has consumed every aspect of my life. I find myself saying things to my kids like “not right now, I have to work” more and more often. It sucks. So, Heather inspired me to re-arrange my life in order to make time for things that matter most.
Secondly, she outlined my dream family photography session. I read their morning family surfing ritual and just had to photograph it. I want to do more than take pictures of families smiling on the beach. I want to dig deeper and find something fun and meaningful to them and then tag along to take photos capturing those fun memories forever.
So Heather, thank you for the inspiration and the kick in the but to get back to living and for sharing your morning with me. You have an incredible family!
